Whether you rent or you own, making your house feel like a home can be a ton of work. It’s a process, that you go through over time - not something you can just fall into overnight! Half decorated spaces, aesthetics across your home that don’t match - which if it’s not obvious, isn’t exactly the vibe.

And in my opinion as an artist, that’s one of the most important choices you can make!!
3 - Everyone has that one painting from Ikea
Look - I get it. It’s easy to follow trends. One shop releases a line of artwork based on avocados, and suddenly it’s in everyone’s foyer. Avocados start trending on Twitter, and before you know it, there are shirts in Target with avocado print like it’s always been there. But here’s the thing - when you follow all of those trends, and you get that one abstract art piece from Ikea, and it takes center stage in your home’s decorating… you’re doing what EVERYONE ELSE is doing.
There’s nothing wrong with that, especially if it’s what makes you happy!! Like, bring on the avocado vibes, if that brings you joy. Yes, even if it’s STILL a painting of an avocado. (Probably should’ve picked something that’s actually in my shop for that example, huh? Well, it is what it is, I stand by it.)

Remember that painting from Ikea we were just talking about? There’s another aspect of it being generic that we’ve got to talk about - because when you have art in your home that everyone has already seen elsewhere, it’s just… not a conversation piece. Because who asks a question about something they already know you got at a place that they shop, where they ALSO considered getting that art print? You see what I’m getting at here, right?

5 - Hanging art is an option for everyone!
Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete, if I didn’t cover the fact that getting unique, niche artwork to decorate your home, is a great way to bring a unique edge to your decorating… whether you rent or you own. There are so many non-destructive ways to hang artwork now, too, if you’re not someone who’s allowed to pop holes into the wall for hanging artwork!
